Regional institutions and implementation partners came together to mark the launch of the ESRMVC project and its shared programme of policy, research and applied pilot work across SADC.
Read more about the launch on Mining WeeklyThe ESRMVC project supports a regional transition toward energy transition mineral value chains that are environmentally responsible, socially inclusive and aligned with climate and development priorities.
Through policy work, applied research and implementation pilots, the project brings together governments, regional institutions, universities and technical partners to strengthen ESG practice, improve MRV systems, build circular-economy skills, test mine rehabilitation approaches and explore practical decarbonisation pathways.
Generating practical evidence through laboratory work, field trials and partner-led implementation.
Testing rehabilitation and decarbonisation approaches across sites, systems and operational contexts.
Supporting practical guidance, benchmarking, consultation and regional synthesis for responsible mineral value chains.
Building training pathways, reporting methods and technical tools that support partner systems and regional uptake.
The project combines regional policy alignment with three applied pilots. MRV and climate integration run across the workstreams to support practical learning and implementation tracking.

Read the Mining Weekly coverageAn upcoming CSIR event will introduce the hybrid diesel-hydrogen engine development work and its role in practical mine fleet decarbonisation pathways.
Sign up for launch updatesThe project will introduce practical measurement, reporting and verification approaches for fleet baselines, emissions data and transition performance.
Sign up for MRV updatesThe project will bring university and TVET partners together around curriculum development, training-of-trainers and gender-sensitive skills pathways for energy transition mineral value chains.
Sign up for launch updatesThis ECA-led, IKI-supported project brings together a regional consortium working across the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Wits Enterprise is proud to contribute as a consortium partner, supporting applied research, policy work, implementation pilots and project learning alongside regional institutions and technical partners.
More information about the wider consortium and its work is available on the ECA project website. The IKI South Africa interface provides further information about IKI-supported work in South Africa.

Project resources will be published here to support the mining and stakeholder community with practical evidence, tools and implementation learning. These will include policy notes, MRV templates, pilot reports, workshop materials, field notes and public presentations.
